Where is the link in bio on Instagram and what is it for? Let’s jump in right to it.
So you’ve seen the oft-quoted “Link in Bio” on someone’s profile.
Instagram bio is where users describe themselves to the world, add hashtags and other accounts they follow, and include a link to their website. But where is the “bio” section, and why would you want to promote yourself in this manner? We’ll explain later.
Where is the Link in Bio on Instagram?
Instagram is more than just scrolling through pictures and videos and texting friends. You, like businesses and publishers, can convert your followers into potential customers or simply increase the reach of your work.
When you see “link in bio” in someone’s post caption, you know they’re inviting you to browse their entire catalogue. Are you unsure how to access the bio section? Here’s how you can do it…
Look up someone else’s bio (and a link in their bio)
Simply tap on someone else’s username just above their post to access their bio.
This will take you to their profile, where you will see the “bio” section under their profile picture.
Their account descriptions and blue links can be found there. Clicking on this will take you to their website or a page that is not on Instagram.
Finding Your Own Bio
Tap on your profile icon to access your own bio (at the bottom right corner of the screen).
This will bring you to your profile page. The bio section is located beneath your profile photo and name.
The Uses of Link in Bio
Instagram is quite restrictive when it comes to adding links to your bio. Users are only allowed to add one link to their bio at a time. Why? To prevent spammers and trolls from flooding the feed with links and ruining users’ experiences.
However, even with a single embedded link, you can accomplish a lot with your bio.
- Promoting your product or brand: With a character limit of 150, the bio section isn’t really the place to sing your brand’s or cause’s praises. It is best to include a link to your page so that people can see your products for themselves.
- Provide free product samples and sale discounts: Whether to attract customers for the launch of a new product or to increase sales, discounts and free offerings are marketing strategies that are almost certain to get people to notice your products. Including a link to these in your bio is an effective “call to action” that will entice customers and audiences.
- Invite people to view your artistic catalog: If you’re an artist with published material, it’s a good idea to include a link to where people can find it. It could be your blog, podcast, song, or YouTube channel. The link has done its job as long as people are redirected directly to your content.
- Get to know your followers better: There’s only so much space in a bio, and brevity isn’t for everyone. Your link could direct your followers to a page that best describes you, your interests, passions, pursuits, and accomplishments, in your own words. If you want your followers to get to know you better and connect on a deeper level, do this.
How to Include a Link in Your Bio Instagram
Adding links to your Instagram bio is a breeze. Here’s how you can go about it:
- Go to your profile page (as shown previously) and select Edit Profile.
- Add a brief link to your website or page that you want users to be redirected to in the “Website” section.
- Then, in the top right corner, tap the tick mark to confirm.
Consider this your primary link for people who will visit your profile. It is best not to change this too frequently, not least to ensure that anyone viewing your profile in the future can access the link you mentioned in one of your previous posts. Add links that are only valid for a few days to your stories if you want to include them.

Using Link Services to Add Multiple Links
Although Instagram only allows one link in the bio, you can use link services to combine multiple links into one. Linktree, smartURL, ContactInBio, and Campsite are some of these link services.
Such services are simple to use and work in a similar manner: sign up for the service, add links to your pages, and combine them into a single link. Insert this newly created link into the “website” section of your bio. Most of these can also be customized to match the theme of your Instagram page, which is a handy feature.
SmartURL was used by the user “martyfriedman” for his bio, for example.
When one clicks on it, a list of all the links embedded with this link service appears.

How to Include Pronouns in Your Instagram Bio

Keep in mind that this feature is currently only available in a few countries, but Instagram intends to expand its availability to users in additional countries in the future.
Here’s how to see if you have access to the feature and add the pronouns to your Instagram bio:

- Select Edit profile.
- Tap on the “Pronouns” section if you see it here.
- On the following page, tap the “Add your Pronouns” section, type in a pronoun, and then select it from the list.
