How to Add a clickable link on Instagram bio so my audience can click it easily?
Want to know how to add Instagram links that can be clicked on or a link in your bio? You’ve come to the right spot.
Want to add an Instagram link that people can click on to get more people to visit your website?
You may or may not know that you can’t put clickable links in Instagram captions and comments.
On most social media sites, you can post links to your website that people can click on. In your captions, comments, profile, and in other places.
There are only one or two places on Instagram where you can share links that people can click on.
People have talked about Instagram’s decision to limit where you can put clickable links, but it’s clear that there’s a reason behind it. The decision to limit where you can share clickable Instagram links was made to stop people from using too many links to promote themselves, or more accurately, to stop them from spreading spam on Instagram. Most of this kind of spam on social media happens in the comments and posts.
This doesn’t work for Instagram, though, because spammers can’t use Instagram as a platform to spam, at least not through posts or comments. However, platforms like Twitter and Facebook have to deal with spammers all the time who spread their clickable links.
Instagram’s decision to make it harder to share Instagram links that can be clicked hurts businesses and other people who use Instagram in a normal way and don’t spam. If spammers didn’t take advantage of the features that let you share clickable links, Instagram wouldn’t have to limit the ability to do so.
In other words, bots and spammers are ruining it for everyone else, making it harder for you as a marketer and businesses to use Instagram as a marketing tool to drive traffic back to your site and turn people into customers.
The good news is that Instagram hasn’t completely cut down on where you can share links that people can click on. To get the most out of places where you can share clickable links, you just need to be more strategic about how you use them.
In this article, I’ll show you how to put a clickable link in your Instagram bio, where you can put a clickable link on Instagram, and how you can use clickable links on Instagram to drive traffic back to your site and make sales.
In other words, use Instagram as a marketing tool to get people to your site and make sales. If you’re still unsure about Instagram link in bio, you can start here: What Does Link in Bio Mean on Instagram?
All right?
Let’s dig right in!
How to Add Clickable Link on Instagram in General
In your Instagram bio, you can share a link that people can click on. This is one of the few places you can do this, and it’s also the most common place.
It’s easy for anyone to add a clickable link to their Instagram bio. The catch is that you can only put one clickable link in your Instagram bio, so you need to think about which link you want to put there. On the other hand, you can change your profile link to Instagram as often as you want.

How to Add a Clickable Link on Instagram Bio
To make a link in your Instagram bio that can be clicked on, go to the “Edit Profile” section on your app’s home page.
Once you’ve tapped “Edit,” type the URL of the site you want to link to in the “Website” section of your profile.
Easy, right?
Now, tap Done.
As a business using Instagram, you want to make use of as many places as possible where you can share clickable links.
Some businesses put links to their website or specific pages on their website in their captions or comments, but they can’t be clicked on. If someone wants to go to that website, they would have to open their browser and type the URL in by hand.
This is a lot of work for the users, and very few people will actually do it. If your URL is long and full of numbers, almost no one will type it in.
To get as many people as possible to visit your website so that you can convert them, you need to make it as easy as possible for them to do so. This is what happens when you click on a link instead of typing in your website’s URL by hand.
Let’s look at the other places on Instagram where you can share links that people can click on.
Instagram Stories
The best place to share links that can be clicked on is probably Instagram Stories. The reason for this is that with Stories, you can tell a story that engages your audience and then get them to click on your link and go to your website.
With a link in your bio, the closest place you can tell people to go to your website is in your regular posts. Going from your post to clicking the link in your bio adds a bit of friction because it may make people feel like they’re going in a different direction.
In an ideal world, the links you share should be easy for people to use and take them to the exact website they want. When you share a clickable link in your Instagram bio, you can’t do this the same way as when you share a link in your Stories.
Links in Instagram Stories aren’t clickable, but they are “swipeable.” This means that people can get to the website you’re sharing with them by swiping up on the screen, which takes them straight to your website.
You need at least 10,000 followers or a verified Instagram account to put links in Instagram Stories, though. Getting verified on Instagram is usually harder than getting 10K followers, though. Instagram set this limit as another way to stop spam, since most spammers are new accounts that quickly get banned after spreading spam links to spam sites.
Since you can only have 10,000 followers, many small businesses can’t use Instagram as a marketing tool to drive conversions because they can’t use this great way to drive traffic back to their site. However, Instagram seems happy with their decision because they haven’t changed this number since they added the ability to share swappable links on Stories.
To add a link to your Story, make a story like you normally would by recording a video, taking a photo, uploading an existing piece of content from your photo library, etc. Then, tap the chain in the top right corner of your screen, which is the link icon, and paste (or type) the website you want to link to through your Story. Keep in mind that the chain icon will only show up if you have a verified account or a business profile with more than 10,000 followers.
When you tap the chain icon, a new window opens where you can put your URL. Tap “Done” or the green checkmark when you’re done.
When you share your Story, you can swipe up on that story to see how many people have swiped up to get to your website. This gives you information about how well it did.
Direct Message on Instagram
Instagram Direct Message is the third place you can share links that people can click on. As a marketing tool, it’s not the best way to share links that people can click on because you could be seen as a spammer if you send a lot of links to people through Direct Message. On the other hand, it’s great to be able to share clickable links in Direct Message if you’re talking to someone, maybe a customer, who wants to know more about a product or service. This makes for a smooth user experience.
According to Mobile Monkey, 75% of customers prefer to engage with brands through private massaging channels. Therefore, a Direct Message is a good option to connect with your audience.
On Instagram Direct, anyone can share a link that can be clicked. Just type in the URL of the site you want to share and tap “Send.”
Shoppable posts on Instagram
The new “shoppable” posts on Instagram are a big change that was just made available to all businesses after a long time in beta. With the update, businesses will be able to “tag” products with their names and prices. Then, people can tap on the tag to go to the website of the store where the product is sold and find out more about it.
The idea behind product tags is that they should be put on products that can be seen in the photo. This way, people can look at a photo on Instagram and be inspired to learn more or even buy the product.
Keep in mind that shoppable tags on Instagram posts are not available in all countries or to all users.
Your account must be approved for shopping on Instagram before you can use Instagram shoppable tag posts (Clickable Instagram links).
To let people tag products on your profile:
- Tap the bottom right corner to go to your Instagram page.
- Click the “Get started” message at the top of your profile (under the condition that you have converted your account to a business account)
- Tap the gear icon in your profile if you can’t see the alert.
- Tap “Shopping”
- Tap “Continue”
- Now, choose a product catalog you want to link to your Instagram business profile.
- Choose a catalog of products to link to your business profile.
- Tap “Done”.
If you can’t find Shopping in your business settings, it’s likely that your account is still being reviewed or hasn’t been approved for shopping on Instagram.
The application process for shopping on Instagram usually takes a few days, but it could take longer.
Clickable Instagram Links for Shopping
Once your account has been approved for shopping, it’s very easy to tag products on Instagram to make clickable Instagram links.
Choose a photo to upload, add a caption, and fix the image with filters or edit it as you like.
Now, click the “Tag products” button that’s under the picture.
Tap the products you want to tag that you can see in the picture.
Look for the names of the items you want to tag. Remember that you need to make a product catalog on Facebook before you can tag items on Instagram. When you find the item you want to tag, tap it and put the tag in a good place on it.
You can tag products in new and old Instagram posts, but you need a business profile to be able to do this.
You can tag up to 5 products per single-image post or up to 20 products per carousel with multiple images. You can also edit or delete products you’ve tagged in single-image posts on Instagram.
Instagram shopping
Once you’ve shared at least nine posts with products tagged on your Instagram business profile, you’ll be able to turn on the Shop tab for your audience. This is a tab on your profile that people can click to see all the products you’ve tagged in your posts. From there, they can tap the items they like and go straight to your website to buy them.
In that way, it’s an Instagram link, but more importantly, it’s one of the easiest ways for people to shop and a great way for businesses to connect their Stories to their products and make it easier for their followers to buy.
Instagram shopping is just a tab on your profile, but most businesses don’t use it because they’re more interested in the tags on the posts. However, it’s a great way to show off the products you sell, like in a catalog, in a way that’s integrated and easy to use.
